It seems as soon as people learned to put a roof over their heads, they started creating places to fill with work, life and play. Archaeologists have evidence that humans living in caves used smaller caves or alcoves as makeshift storage spaces, and this habit has been passed down through generations. In early Europe, structures were made from animal parts like mammoth tusks and skins. Eskimos even crafted snow igloos and ice homes for additional space. Today, sheds are commonplace due to the fact that they provide much-needed extra space outside of our homes.

Why do so many of us own sheds? Many cultures see it as a traditional rite of passage, with fathers passing on the art of tooling and tinkering to their sons in the shed they built themselves. It’s also a way for an individual to carve out a little corner of their own – known affectionately as man caves and she sheds – where they can get away from everyday life without judgement or distractions. Sheds offer refuge from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, allowing one to recharge their mental batteries in solitude.

Creative types also love having a personal shed workspace where they can express their imagination through woodworking, gardening, metalwork or artistry -all while giving rusty items a new lease on life. With the right tools and gadgets, you’ll never run out of things to do in your shed!
