SHEDEX FLEURIEU

Milang Marine Search & Rescue Squadron

ShedEx Fleurieu is a trusted name in the shed building industry that provides top-quality sheds to clients across the Fleurieu region. In 2020, we completed a project for the Milang Marine Search & Rescue Squadron (MMSARS), a volunteer marine search and rescue service in South Australia tasked by SA Police Marine Operations Unit. In this post, we will showcase ShedEx Fleurieu’s shed extension work for MMSARS. Learn more about how ShedEx Fleurieu helped MMSARS ensure public safety in the waters surrounding Lake Alexandrina.

The Milang Marine Search & Rescue Squadron (MMSARS) is a non-profit, charity volunteer organisation that provides safety resources for those who use Lake Alexandrina and surrounding waters. MMSARS was formed through a generous donation made by the Freemason’s Masonic Charities who share a desire to preserve life. Despite receiving no government funding, MMSARS provides a 24-hour response to marine emergencies, including search and rescue operations.

ShedEx Fleurieu was commissioned to design and build an extension to the existing shed at the Milang base, located on the banks of Lake Alexandrina. Our  team worked closely with the Milang Squadron to ensure the extension would meet their requirements. The shed extension included a lockable storage area for rescue gear, a workshop area, and an office for administrative work.

With quick access to their equipment, MMSARS volunteers can be on the water within minutes of receiving an emergency call.

The shed extension was officially opened in October 2020, and it has made a huge difference in the efficiency of MMSARS operations. With the new extension, MMSARS can store all their equipment in one place, which makes it easier for volunteers to access and maintain their gear. Furthermore, the extension has made it possible for MMSARS to provide a better safety presence on the lake.
