Want to install a new shed on your property? The approval process is necessary but can be tricky. Let ShedEx Fleurieu relieve the stress of getting sign-off from council.
Sheds and council approval

No matter where you are in Australia, local councils don’t like you to build anything on your property without letting them know about it. That means you must get council approval if you are building a new shed or garage. Even a shed extension or small freestanding shed is likely to need council approval.
You might be surprised at the amount of trouble you can get into if you build a shed on your property without council approval. Trying to get around council regulations can cost you big time in terms of fines and removal orders, so it is always best to go by the book. When in doubt; ask… it’s always better to be safe than sorry.
Does my shed need Council Approval?
Some garden sheds may be exempt from Development Approval, provided the structure:
- Overall height less than 2.5 metres;
- The total floor area of the shed does not exceed 15 square metres;
- No span of the shed exceeds 3 metres.
ShedEx Fleurieu can apply for development approval
When you build a custom shed with ShedEx Fleurieu, council approval is part of our process.
Our skilled team will prepare your site plan, certify the building’s plans and drawings, and submit your application to council.
On average most applications are approved within 4 – 6 weeks. Some development applications are more complex and need referrals and/or public notification, which can take extra time. The quality and accuracy of the information included with your application can also affect the time taken to assess the application.
Depending on the size of the project you want built, as well as whether or not you choose to utilise our complete project service, your custom-designed shed, garage, barn, or workshop could take a few months to complete from start to finish.
ShedEx Fleurieu can do it all

When you choose ShedEx Fleurieu to take care of your complete custom shed project, we’ll thoroughly prepare the Council development application and make sure it is in line with requirements and regulations.
