Shed Roof & Wall Cladding
BMT vs TCT: Why Shed Steel Thickness Matters More Than You Think
When it comes to building a shed that lasts, steel thickness makes all the difference. But here’s the catch — not all thickness measurements are created equal.
Some suppliers promote Total Coated Thickness (TCT), which includes the paint and protective coatings. It sounds impressive, but it’s not telling the full story. What really matters is the Base Metal Thickness (BMT) — the actual thickness of the steel itself, before any coatings are applied
Not All Steel Is Created Equal
Choosing a higher BMT means more than just durability — it means peace of mind.
Stronger resistance to dents and damage
Safer to walk on for gutter cleaning and roof access
Longer lifespan and better protection against wild South Aussie weather
Some shed companies cut corners with 0.30mm BMT sheeting — even on the roof. That’s not just weak, it’s risky. Thin steel flexes, dents, and may fail under load — especially in high-wind zones like the Fleurieu.
Every project we deliver uses genuine COLORBOND® steel, made in South Australia, and we always quote thickness in BMT — no tricks, no confusion.

Horizontal Shed Cladding
Give Your Shed a Contemporary Edge with Horizontal Cladding
Looking to break away from the standard shed look? Horizontal cladding is a bold design move that instantly modernises your space. By running the steel panels sideways instead of vertically, you create a sleek, architectural finish that stands out — stylish, clean, and anything but ordinary.
It’s the perfect way to add a custom feel and elevate the overall aesthetic of your shed.

COLORBOND® MATT
COLORBOND® steel in a matt finish delivers a refined, premium look — perfect for modern architectural styles. Its soft, textured appearance gently diffuses light to reduce glare, creating a sleek and understated finish. Behind the elegance is the trusted durability of COLORBOND® steel — built to withstand Australia’s harshest conditions without compromising on style
ULTRA COLORBOND®
For sheds in harsh coastal conditions, COLORBOND® Ultra steel is the go-to choice — engineered specifically for severe marine environments. It’s ideal for roofing, walling, gutters, downpipes, and fascias where extra protection matters most.
For even more extreme coastal exposure, BlueScope’s SUPERDURA® Stainless steel provides the highest level of corrosion resistance, making it suitable for very severe marine zones.
